More than 200 residents and local stakeholders joined Premier David Crisafulli and his Ministers at the Mackay Community Cabinet in November to discuss how they are delivering for the region.
With 104 deputation meetings held, locals could discuss their priorities and regional opportunities directly with Ministers.
The Crisafulli Government’s significant announcements included $2 million in support for vulnerable Mackay residents, as it continues to deliver a better lifestyle for Queenslanders and a plan for Queensland’s future.

Delivering safety where you live

Making Mackay safer
Premier David Crisafulli and the Member for Mackay Nigel Dalton are focused on making Mackay safer, hosting a community forum to address concerns about antisocial behaviour in Mackay’s CBD.
Attendees included residents, businesses, local government representatives and other key stakeholders who shared their experiences and discussed the impacts on their daily life.
Ongoing work is underway to develop targeted solutions for a safer Mackay.
Restoring community safety
The Crisafulli Government is delivering an upgraded Mackay Police Station to restore community safety across the region.
The $9.31 million investment will help tackle crime and improve safety by ensuring police have the best facilities to keep Mackay residents safer.
Our government is providing more than $290 million for new and upgraded police stations and facilities, more than $147 million for critical equipment, and bolstering the front line with 1600 new police recruits across the state.

New hub boosting victim support
A new purpose-built Vulnerable Persons Hub will support Mackay community members in crisis, including victims of domestic and family violence.
The hub will bring together key specialist units under one roof to ensure people in crisis are met with a unified trauma-informed response.
The hub houses two dedicated safe rooms, including a child-friendly space, ensuring safety, dignity, and recovery are prioritised.
Delivering health services when you need them
More beds, more workers, better health services
The Crisafulli Government is delivering health services when you need them through the expansion of the Mackay Hospital.
Health support for the community is being enhanced with at least 128 new overnight beds and an expanded multi-storey car park through this government’s $18.5 billion Hospital Rescue Plan.
Extra funding will also grow the healthcare workforce across the Mackay Hospital and Health Service and refurbish the Mackay Community Mental Health facility.

Transit Care Hub expansion easing emergency pressures
Patient care is a key focus for the Crisafulli Government and Mackay Hospital’s expanded Transit Care Hub is helping deliver this.
The new-look transit lounge with dedicated interim treatment areas eases emergency department pressures.
This is possible through the first tranche of this government’s $80 million investment through the Easier Access to Health Services Plan.

Unlocking bright futures for Mackay’s youth
Mackay’s youth have even brighter futures ahead, with employment and training opportunities boosted with the expansion of the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA).
The Resources Centre of Excellence is powered by the Crisafulli Government’s $2 million investment in academy regional hubs in Central and North Queensland.
The QMEA has a network of more than 100 schools and directly engages with up to 6,000 students each year.

Planning for Mackay to prosper
The Crisafulli Government is moving quickly to deliver its Primary Industries Prosper 2050 vision.
This roadmap to increasing primary production output to $30 billion by 2030 includes regionally based and sector-specific, five-year action plans.
The Mackay, Isaac, and Whitsunday region is a priority for the working groups developing the plans, and more information is available at qld.gov.au/prosper2050.
Delivering a plan for Queensland’s future
Boost for Mackay school students
Students, staff, and the local community have better accessibility and connectivity thanks to more than $1.8 million invested by the Crisafulli Government in Mackay State High School.
The school is also receiving funding to refurbish the hall and to add air-conditioning as part of this government’s $70.68 million School and Education Boost.

New facilities at Mackay State High School, including covered car parking to support people with a disability, ensure all students have equal opportunities.
A safer Bruce Highway for Mackay region
Drivers using the Bruce Highway between Mackay and Proserpine will experience a safer journey thanks to the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program.
The work, including new overtaking lanes for more efficient travel, will be undertaken as part of the 80:20 funding arrangement between the Queensland Government and Australian Government.

Accommodation support for people without a home
Vulnerable Mackay residents are being supported by a $2 million Crisafulli Government investment, including a $1 million grant to Chances House.
Chances House, also known as the Australian Street Aid Project, is a drop-in centre providing support, referrals and meals to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
A further $1 million will help six other specialist homelessness services in Mackay and Whitsundays.
Unlocking doors to support Mackay community
More homes for Queenslanders in the Mackay-Whitsundays region are being delivered with the Crisafulli Government investing over $44 million in social and community housing.
More than 140 social and affordable homes are under contract or in construction to be delivered in the area.
In addition, 33 homes in the region have been delivered towards this government’s delivery target of 53,500 social and community homes by 2044.

This social housing project, currently in construction documentation stage, will deliver 18 homes in the Mackay region.
Residential Activation Fund expanding housing
The Crisafulli Government is breaking down development barriers to fast-track more places to call home for Queenslanders.
The $2 billion Residential Activation Fund is fast-tracking more than 2900 new homes in Mackay-Whitsundays.
It will support one million new homes in the state by 2044 with at least 50 per cent invested in regional and remote Queensland.

Games On! in Mackay
Big things are happening in Mackay! The Crisafulli Government is putting Mackay on the map as a sporting and tourism hotspot in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Funding through the $250 million Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program is helping to deliver Stage 2 of the Great Barrier Reef Arena at Harrup Park.
There’s also $450,000 for the North Mackay Saints AFL Club to replace and upgrade lighting at Zeolla Park in Andergrove.
Investment in the environment
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future by investing more than $7.8 million in land, soil, water, and biodiversity projects in the Mackay Whitsunday Isaac region.
The funding, through the Natural Resource Management Expansion Program (NRMEP), supports Cattle Creek, the Great Barrier Reef, inshore reefs, seagrass meadow, and improves koala habitat.
The Queensland Government is also providing more than $9.6 million in NRMEP funding for projects protecting Central Queensland’s iconic landscapes and monitor and protect turtles.

Restoring 8km of streambank along Cattle Creek to strengthen the riparian corridors, enhance in-stream habitats and reduce sediment deliver to the Great Barrier Reef.
