Compliance signage for licensed venues

Signs are useful for notifying staff and patrons of their legal requirements and the fines for breaking liquor laws. The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation provides signs for you to download, print and display at your licensed premises. The fine amounts noted on signs change on 1 July each year.

We encourage you to use the signage provided in this guide to tell your patrons what you expect of them while at your licensed premises. You can also clearly convey to patrons and staff that you support your staff in refusing service; and your staff can point out these signs when enforcing responsible service of alcohol laws.

Signage for licensed venues cover the topics of:

  • mandatory signs
  • BYO and takeaway alcohol
  • identified organisations
  • minors
  • noise restrictions
  • refusal of service
  • patron and venue safety.

Signage that licensed venues must display by law

Under the Liquor Act 1992, you must display the following mandatory signs on a conspicuous part of the premises:

  • Liquor licence/permit details
Also read Liquor guideline 14: Particulars to be displayed on licensed premises.
  • RAMP sign
This sign advises patrons of their right to see the venue's risk-assessed management plan (RAMP).
  • ID scanning collection notice
If your venue is a regulated premises for ID scanning purposes, you must display a summary of your privacy policy at or near the entrance to the venue, to allow patrons to view it before producing photo ID. Also read, Liquor guideline 64: Privacy obligations for establishing and operating identification scanning systems.
  • closed-circuit television (CCTV) signs advising patrons that CCTV equipment is in use at the premises, for example:
    • This venue is under video surveillance poster and LCD screen sign
    • This venue is under video surveillance and search by metal detectors poster and LCD screen sign
    • Video surveillance, metal detectors and management can refuse entry poster and LCD screen sign.

You must display CCTV signs if:

  • your licensed venue is situated in the Brisbane City Council area and has approved trading hours after 1am
  • or
  • your licence document contains a CCTV-related condition.

We recommend you also use the other signs in this guide to help you with responsible service of alcohol requirements and to assist in creating a safe environment for your staff and patrons.
