The Gudjuda Land and Sea Rangers care for land and sea on Bindal and Juru country in the Burdekin region. The team based at Home Hill,  delivers a program that focuses on looking after the environment.

Gudjuda rangers’ work includes:

  • engaging with Traditional Owners, QPWS and other partners for strategic planning of work priorities
  • fire management to improve the health of country and reduce bushfire risk in partnership with QPWS, and wildfire response
  • control of weeds and pests, including rubbervine and feral pigs
  • in-water monitoring and tagging of marine turtles and turtle nesting surveys in partnership with DES Threatened Species Unit. and James Cook University
  • seagrass monitoring in partnership with Seagrass Watch and surveys of migratory shorebirds in partnership with QPWS
  • beach and waterway cleanups in partnership with Tangaroa Blue, schools and community groups
  • cultural heritage site monitoring, recording and management, maintenance of
  • cultural knowledge transfer through regular engagement with young people including in-school and on-country activities.
