Jinibara Freshwater Rangers work across their country, which encompasses four clan group areas: Dungidau centred on Kilcoy, Villeneuve and Mount Archer; Dala around Woodford and Mount Mee; Nalbo of the Blackall Range and areas of the Glasshouse Mountains; and Garumngar, from the rolling country between the Brisbane River and around Lake Manchester and Mount Crosby.

Jinibara rangers’ activities priorities include:

  • development of threatened species management plans for priority species in the Mary River system
  • supporting initiatives to respond to Bunya Dieback within Jinibara country
  • partnering with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Fire and Emergency Services and Rural Fire Service on fire management for Jinibara country, and responding to wildfire incidents
  • water quality monitoring in Obi Obi Creek, Stanley River and Upper Brisbane River
  • mapping and recording fauna and flora including species of cultural significance and rare and endangered status, and development of seasonal calendar (lifecycle study) for Glasshouse Mountains and D’Aguilar national parks
  • weed and feral animal management, including monitoring for feral animals (pigs and foxes) around waterways and turtle nests, with key partners
  • recording and mapping cultural heritage sites, and planning and implementing cultural heritage management plans for significant sites on Jinibara country
  • delivering school based and on-country education activities for young Jinibara people; and the wider community, and participating in the ‘Kids in Action’ environmental program
