About the week

During Foster and Kinship Carer Week we say thank you to our foster and kinship carer families in Queensland for their dedication and commitment, and for opening their hearts and homes to children and young people in need.

The week is an opportunity for everyone to acknowledge the valuable role of carers in our communities.

In 2026, Foster and Kinship Carer Week will be held from 6 to 13 June.

A day in the life

Find out what everyday life is like for:

  • Sandra, who grew up with a foster sibling and has now been a foster carer herself for more than a decade
  • Justin and the kids he cares for
  • Kate and Jess, who have 4 biological children and have added foster children into their family
  • Cheryl and Uncle Allan, who have been foster carers for 30 years
  • Helen, who shares what it has been like caring for her grandson.

We need more foster carers, like you
