Volunteer with Rural Fire Service

The Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) is the volunteer arm of the Queensland Fire Department (QFD). They operate in areas not covered by QFD urban services.

Made up of  more than 1300 rural fire brigades and 27,000 volunteers across the state, the RFSQ perform several roles, including:

  • fighting and preventing fires
  • educating the community on fire prevention
  • issuing fire permits
  • helping the community during disasters.

Training

Members of rural brigades receive training that can assist in all areas of life. Brigade members learn:

  • teamwork
  • incident management
  • leadership skills
  • fire behaviour
  • communication skills.

Joining RFSQ

There are many roles in the RFSQ, including:

  • fire fighting and prevention
  • community education
  • administration
  • incident management
  • communication
  • catering.
