Eligible people will be able to apply for donor conception information.

What you should know

The Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2024 was passed in September 2024.

The Act will:

  • improve assisted reproductive technology services in Queensland
  • set up a donor conception information register.

Queensland Health has information on the new regulation of assisted reproductive technology service.

You can register your interest to stay informed, give feedback or suggestions about the donor conception information register.

Donor conception information register

The register will store details of donor conception procedures in Queensland that led to births of a donor-conceived individuals.

The register will hold records about both past and future donor conception procedures from fertility clinics.

It can also include information about informal donor conception arrangements (outside of medical settings) if the information is provided voluntarily.

Who can use the register

When the register is ready to use, people who can apply include:

  • donor-conceived people
  • donors
  • recipient parents.

The register will provide access to information about:

  • donors
  • siblings born from the same donor.

Some information such as contact details can be shared with consent.

Register staged release

The register and services will be released in 2 stages:

  1. Collection of records – first, information will be collected from fertility clinics.
  2. Access to records – 6 months later, people who are eligible can apply for information.
