Child and baby health clinics

We provide health services for babies and children to give them the best possible start in life.

Services

Newborn drop-in services

Parents of newborns have access to drop-in services in Queensland.

Each centre provides different services, but all will generally provide free parenting and infant development information, feeding help and support.

Visit Children's Health Queensland for your nearest newborn drop-in services. To find any health service search the health services directory.

Child health clinics

Child health services provide parenting information and support for families in Queensland.

These free services may include nutrition, child growth and development assessments. You may need to book an appointment for this service—please see the information provided by the individual clinic.

Visit Children's Health Queensland for your nearest child health clinic. To find any health service search the health services directory.

Your doctor

The services above provide general advice and support—they do not replace medical diagnosis.

In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

For other medical treatment, please see your doctor.

Make a list of any questions or concerns you have before your visit and bring along your child’s Personal Health Record book (the red book if your baby was born in Queensland), to record the assessment.

If your child is old enough, consider explaining to them where you are going and why, to ease any anxiety they may have about visiting a clinic.

Other help

Your GP can provide health care and support for you and your children. They can also provide referrals to more specialised health care if required.

Free phone advice is also available from:

  • 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84)—for confidential child health advice or breastfeeding support, ask to speak to a child health nurse
  • Pregnancy, Birth and Baby Helpline (1800 882 436)—for confidential general practical advice about babies in their first year.

Register your baby's birth

It’s really important to register your newborn’s birth—the hospital or midwife doesn’t do this for you!

Register your baby's birth with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages before they're 8 weeks old.

Registration is free and only takes 20 minutes to do online.
