Seat belt safety in pregnancy—belt below bump
During pregnancy all women should always wear a seat belt and wear the lap section of their seat-belt below their baby bump, across the pelvis, rather than across their stomach.
A seat belt worn incorrectly—even while travelling at only 40km per hour—could almost double the risk of harm to an unborn baby. However wearing a seat belt is still vital during pregnancy to prevent harm to yourself and your baby.
There is one simple thing you can do to keep you and your baby safe every time you get in the car - put your seat belt on and make sure it is below your bump.
