In short
You can use this service to apply for mediation.
You must submit your completed application form online. See How to apply for mediation for the full application process.
What you should know
Mediation is a way to solve problems without expensive legal costs. It's voluntary, so everyone involved must agree to take part.
Our mediation service can be used for:
- neighbourhood disputes
- workplace disputes
- workplace facilitation
- culturally sensitive dispute resolution for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Before you apply for mediation:
- try to solve the dispute yourself, if it's safe to do so
- be willing to meet with the other person to talk about the issue. If there's a court order stopping you from contacting the other person, you'll need to give us a copy of it when you apply.
A mediation session is usually between 2–4 hours.
The time it takes to go through the entire mediation process varies depending on the issue. On average, it can take between 2–6 weeks.
If you cannot apply online, contact a Dispute Resolution Centre.
