Understand the rules you must follow if you have been sentenced to probation in Queensland.
In short
There are certain rules you must follow when sentenced to a probation order in Queensland.
Use these rules if you:
- are sentenced to probation
- need to follow conditions set by a Magistrate or Judge.
If you do not follow the rules of a probation order you may be resentenced by a Magistrate or Judge.

You must
If you have been sentenced to a probation order you must:
- Follow all rules set by the court, including:
- not committing another offence
- reporting to a Community Corrections district office
- taking part in programs or counselling
- getting permission before leaving Queensland
- telling a Community Corrections officer if you change your address or job status.
- Agree to the rules for the time set by the Magistrate or Judge.
- Follow what your Community Corrections officer asks you to do.
You cannot
If you have been sentenced to a probation order you cannot:
- Break the rules of your probation order. This includes:
- failing to report to your Community Corrections officer
- refusing to take part in programs
- committing another offence.
- Leave Queensland without getting approval from your Community Corrections officer.
- Ignore help to address your behaviour.
Exceptions and special circumstances
You can:
- Have more rules if the court determines you need more intensive supervision.
- Be supervised under a Commonwealth recognisance order and have more rules. The Federal Attorney-General’s unit are told of breaches and could prosecute you.
