Digital Licence Verifier Privacy Notice

Purpose and scope of this privacy notice

Your use of the Digital Licence Verifier App and the data and information it contains or provides (the App) involves the collection, use and handling of information by the State of Queensland, acting through the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB), and its contractor, Thales Australia Ltd (the vendor).

As this information is limited and does not include identifying details such as your name, address, mobile number or other contact details, or require creation of an account, it is unlikely that it will include any of your personal information, as that term is defined in the Information Privacy Act 2009.

This privacy notice applies to the collection, use and handling of your personal information to the extent, if any, that it is collected by or provided to CDSB or the vendor in connection with your onboarding or use of the App.Other than as expressly set out in this privacy notice, the CDSB general privacy policy will apply to any collection, handling, use or disclosure of your personal information in connection with your use of the App.

How is information collected, used and handled in connection with the App?

The table below sets out information concerning how information may be collected, used and handled in connection with the App by CDSB, as the provider and administrator of the App, and in some cases the vendor as provider of App services to CDSB.

What information do we collect?

CDSB and the vendor may collect information about your use of the App. This information may include:

  • the random, auto-generated user number created when the App is first launched and associated with your mobile device or other electronic device on which you use the App (Digital Device);
  • when and how the App is opened and used, including pages accessed and types of functions used;
  • crash and performance analysis;
  • the make and type of device that the App has been downloaded to; and
  • verification information captured using the App's verifier functionality in a de-identified state.

CDSB and the vendor do not collect information from the App about your name, address, mobile number or other contact details, or your location.

Why do we collect information?

CDSB and the vendor collect and use information about your use of the App for the purposes of:

  • making the App available for use;
  • administration of the App, including security; and
  • providing support for and improving the App,

and for other purposes reasonably necessary for or directly related to CDSB's functions and activities.

Any personal information will be managed by the vendor and other ICT service providers to the same or substantially similar information management standards as CDSB.

Who do we disclose your personal information to?

Other than as stated in this privacy notice, CDSB will not disclose your personal information about your use of the App (if any) without your permission, except where required or authorised by law, including to police for the purpose of law enforcement functions where specific legislative authority exists.

Will my personal information be disclosed outside of Australia?

Your personal information (if any) will not be disclosed outside of Australia.

Applicable legislation

Any personal information about your use of the App will be collected and managed in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and the Transport Planning and Coordination Act 1994, where relevant.

Access to other applications and functions

The App requires access to other applications and functions on your Digital Device, including;

  • the camera application;
  • location services; Bluetooth and wifi connectivity; and
  • biometric and other device security features.

Access to these applications and features is required for verification, on-boarding, reporting, analytics, support, security purposes or for other purposes to provide you with a service. Access may also be required to other applications or functions on your Digital Device from time to time.

Access to, amendment and deletion of your personal information

You may:

  • delete the App at any time by uninstalling it from your Digital Device; and
  • request access to and amendment of personal information (if any) held by CDSB by using the contact details below.

CDSB may decline to provide access to, or amend or delete personal or other information where it is legally permitted to refuse to do so. CDSB will explain the basis for its decision when responding to your request or otherwise within a reasonable time.
