Aurukun water supply improvement project
The Queensland Government and Aurukun Shire Council are delivering this project as part of our commitment to the Closing the Gap national agreement. The Aurukun water supply improvement project with ensure reliable access to clean drinking water for community growth.
Work has begun to upgrade the water supply infrastructure for Aurukun. Upgrades include:
- review of raw water infrastructure
- improved chemical storage, new filtration, UV treatment and dosing systems and associated pipework and pumps
- instrumentation and a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor and control the treatment processes
- replacement of steel storage tank.
The project team will consult with all stakeholders throughout the project. They will work closely with the Aurukun Shire Council and the local community to consider water safety and reliability issues.
Timing
- Project commencement - July 2025
- Water treatment plant upgrades - concept design - November 2025
- Stakeholder consultation - early 2026
- Water treatment plant upgrades - detailed design - early 2026
- Construction activities - mid 2026
- Water treatment plant upgrades - infrastructure commissioning - mid 2027.
