Understand the rules youth must follow when they are on a youth justice order.


In short

There are certain rules youth must follow when sentenced to a youth justice order.

These rules help them understand what they have to:

  • do when on a youth justice order
  • tell their Youth Justice officer.

They must

Youth on youth justice orders must:

  • Report to a Youth Justice officer within 1 business day of the order being made.
  • Follow all the conditions of their order (e.g. curfew or where they must live).
  • Go to all the activities or programs their Youth Justice officer says to.
  • Follow all reasonable directions from their Youth Justice officer.
  • Tell the Youth Justice officer within 2 days if they change address.
  • Tell the Youth Justice officer within 2 days if they change school or job.
  • Tell the Youth Justice officer if they are sick and can’t come to their program or meeting.
  • Get a medical certificate if they are sick and can’t come to their program or meeting.
  • Tell their Youth Justice officer if they are having problems following the rules of their order.

They cannot

Youth on youth justice orders cannot:

  • break the law
  • leave Queensland without permission from a Youth Justice officer
  • bring alcohol, drugs, weapons or their friends to their activities, programs or meetings.
