Understand the rules youth must follow when they are on a youth justice order.
In short
There are certain rules youth must follow when sentenced to a youth justice order.
These rules help them understand what they have to:
- do when on a youth justice order
- tell their Youth Justice officer.
They must
Youth on youth justice orders must:
- Report to a Youth Justice officer within 1 business day of the order being made.
- Follow all the conditions of their order (e.g. curfew or where they must live).
- Go to all the activities or programs their Youth Justice officer says to.
- Follow all reasonable directions from their Youth Justice officer.
- Tell the Youth Justice officer within 2 days if they change address.
- Tell the Youth Justice officer within 2 days if they change school or job.
- Tell the Youth Justice officer if they are sick and can’t come to their program or meeting.
- Get a medical certificate if they are sick and can’t come to their program or meeting.
- Tell their Youth Justice officer if they are having problems following the rules of their order.
They cannot
Youth on youth justice orders cannot:
- break the law
- leave Queensland without permission from a Youth Justice officer
- bring alcohol, drugs, weapons or their friends to their activities, programs or meetings.
