What you should know
A subpoena is a legal document. It requires a witness to appear in court to give evidence, produce documents, or both.
There must be a reasonable amount of time for the subpoena to be served and complied with.
Who can use this service
You can request a subpoena if:
- your request is about criminal proceedings in the Supreme Court or District Court of Queensland
- you are a party to the proceedings.
Don't use this service if:
- your request is about civil proceedings.
Instead, contact the relevant courthouse.
How to request a subpoena
Follow these steps to submit your application online.
Step 1: Complete the form
Complete the online application form.
Step 2: Subpoenas for documents
If you need a subpoena for additional documents, you will need to download and complete Form 22.
Step 3: Submit your application
Submit the form(s) online.
How long it takes
Processing time begins when a completed application is received. We will process your request as soon as possible.
Standard applications: 2 business days
Urgent applications: To request an urgent application, contact the courthouse after submitting your online application.
How much it costs
It is free to request a subpoena but fees may apply if documents are provided to the court to inspect.
