The Victims of Crime Community Response (VOCCR) program provides immediate support to victims of crime after violence. Referrals can be made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Victim support agencies can refer victims of violent crimes to the Victims of Crime Community Response program. The program offers a range of support services to assist response and recovery.
What the program does
The Victims of Crime Community Response (VOCCR) program offers victims:
- problem‐solving to reduce stress
- emotional support in the days after a violent crime
- basic needs like food, transport, safe accommodation and clothing
- follow-up contact to assist with recovery
- access to long term support services.
The program has 3 response service types:
- individual response
- homicide response
- community response
Individual response service
Available 24/7. This service gives immediate support to victims of violent crime and their families. You can get support both in-person and over the phone in:
- Townsville
- Logan
- Cairns
- Rockhampton
- Ipswich.
Homicide response service
The Queensland Homicide Victim Support Group supports family members and witnesses affected by a homicide across Queensland.
Community response service
Responds to major violent incidents that have had a serious impact on Queensland communities. It offers support to help with recovery.
VOCCR will start a community response by working with other agencies, like Queensland Police.
Community response may involve:
- doorknocking
- providing information
- creating a community hub.
It will provide mental health first aid to help impacted community members and witnesses.
Who can refer into the program
Victim support agencies such as:
- Queensland Police Service
- Queensland Health
- specialised domestic and family violence services
- specialist sexual assault services
- Queensland Homicide Victim’s Support Group.
Who can be referred by an agency
You can refer someone after they have been impacted by a violent crime, as the victim or as a witness.
Victims or witnesses can be referred for victim assistance services within 5 days of an incident if they have both:
- been injured by a violent crime in Queensland (including psychological injury)
- given you permission to request support on their behalf.
