In short
You can use this service to register as a victim of a youth offender on the victims register.
You can submit your completed application online, by email or by post. See How to register as a victim of a youth offender for the full application process.
You'll be taken to another website.
What you should know
If you are the victim of an offence, or an immediate family member of a victim who died due to an offence, you will be automatically added to the victims' register.
This means you will receive confidential updates about the offender's whereabouts. You can nominate someone to receive information on your behalf.
The Queensland Police Service or the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will contact you to confirm if you would like to be registered. You can choose not to be registered.
You can change or remove your details from the register at any time.
The youth offender may be informed you have been placed on the victims register. They will be given the opportunity to make submissions against your registration.
To be included on the register a youth offender must have:
- committed a violent or sexual offence against a person (not a property offence)
- been found guilty and ordered to a period of detention for the offence
- be serving the detention order in a youth detention centre.
The information you get through the victims register is confidential and must not be shared publicly.
If a youth offender is transferred to an adult prison during their sentence, you will need to re-register on the adult victims register.
Who can use this service
You can go on the victims register if you:
- are a victim of the offence
- are the immediate family member of the victim (if the victim died due to the offence)
- are a victim's parent (if the victim is a child)
- are the guardian or attorney appointed for a legally incapacitated adult victim
- can show that your life or safety may be endangered because of:
- the youth offender's history of violence against you
- a connection between you and the offence.
Don't use this service if:
- providing information to you may endanger someone's safety or the security of the youth detention centre.
Instead, contact the Department of Youth Justice and Victims for other support services.
