You can get a commemorative birth certificate in Queensland. Apply to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages and pay a fee.

In short

You can use this service to get a commemorative certificate for a Queensland birth for:

  • your child
  • yourself.

These are not official birth certificates.

You can submit your completed application form online, by post or in person.

What you should know

Commemorative certificates are keepsakes and not official proof of identity documents.

You can order the same commemorative birth certificate design for yourself and up to 3 children at the same time.

If you want to choose different designs, you will need to fill in the online form for each one.

When you apply you need to:

  • choose the design
  • decide if you want the certificate to show the person’s sex.

You do not need to submit your proof of identity. We will check that you can apply.

Certificates fit a standard A4 picture frame—certificate size 210mm x 297mm.  It will be posted in an A4 envelope with cardboard reinforcement.

Who can use this service

You can apply for a commemorative birth certificate if :
Correct.you you are the person
Correct.you are their parent.
Don't use this service if:
Incorrect. the person was born outside of Queensland
Instead, apply in that state, territory or country.
Incorrect.you your child’s birth has not been registered yet
Instead, register your child's birth.
Incorrect. you also need an official birth certificate for identity purposes
Instead, apply for a commemorative package that includes an official birth certificate.

How to apply for a commemorative birth certificate

Complete the online form and pay the fee. Print the receipt.

Once your application is approved we will post the certificate to you.

We will send the certificate in an A4 envelope with cardboard reinforcement.

Once your application is approved we will post the certificate to you.

You will need to use our self-service kiosk at the Brisbane registry.

Step 2: Submit your application

Submit your application using the self-service kiosk at:

Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am–4.30pm

Closed public holidays.

Bring with you:

  • payment method
  • original ID and supporting documents.

Step 3: Receive the certificate

Once your application is approved the certificate will be given to you in person.

How long it takes

Processing times apply to applications submitted online or by post.

Standard application: up to 10 business days

Urgent application: not available

Allow extra time for public holidays and postage.

How much it costs

The fee you pay is for you to submit your application and for the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages to review it.

  • Commemorative birth certificate (with or without sex shown): $29.20

Regular postage is free.

You can choose other delivery types:

  • Registered post (recommended): $8.10
  • Express post: $8.55
  • International registered mail: $18.55
