Getting documents certified
If you post copies of your proof of identity (ID) and supporting documents to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, they must be certified by an authorised person.
An authorised person can also witness signatures on documents.
Within Australia
- Justice of the Peace (JP) or Commissioner for Declarations (Cdec)
- Barrister or solicitor
- Notary public
Outside Australia
- Notary public
- Australian Embassy or Consulate officer
Do not post original ID documents.
