What you should know

If you want to visit a prisoner in Queensland you must first make an application and if approved, you must then book your visit.

You must follow the Rules for visiting a prisoner when visiting a Queensland prison.

Who can use this service

You can apply for and book a visit to a prisoner if you are a:

  • family member
  • friend
  • lawyer
  • official visitor
  • religious visitor or chaplain.

Don't use this service if:

  • you don’t have the required proof of identity documents
    Instead, ensure you can provide the necessary documentation before applying.

How to apply for and book a visit to a prisoner

Choose how you would like to visit and follow the steps.

Step 1: Complete the application form

Download and complete the form.

If you can’t download the form, request a copy by emailing StatewideOperationsCommunications@corrections.qld.gov.au

Step 2: Gather your documents

Gather certified copies of your proof of identity and if you have had any criminal convictions.

You'll need 1 form of photo proof of identity or 2 forms of non-photo proof of identity.

Step 3: Submit your application

Submit your completed application to the prison you wish to visit.

Step 4: Receive the outcome

The prison will review your application and notify you of the outcome. You may need to contact the prison to confirm your visit has been approved.

Approval may take up to 6 weeks.

Step 5: Book your visit

Once approved, contact the prison to book your visit during their nominated booking times.

Step 6: Attend your visit

Arrive to your booked visit on time and bring your approved proof of identity.

Step 6: Start your online visit

  • Click the ‘join meeting’ link in the email before your visit time.
  • You will be prompted to install an application on your device.
  • Follow the instructions in the user guide to set up the application.
  • Show your photo proof of identity or 2 forms of non-photo proof of identity to the officer monitoring the visit.
  • Follow the rules for visiting a prisoner.

How long it takes

Processing time begins with a completed application is received.
