        If the sex shown on your current ID is different to the sex on your birth certificate, you must provide evidence showing how you updated your sex on your ID—for example a recognised details certificate from another state or territory.

        If your application is approved, this sex descriptor will be your sex under Queensland law and will be shown on your recognised details certificate. You will need to update your details with every organisation you have a personal account with.

        You must provide a descriptor of the sex that you both identify as and want to live as. Other genders are allowed, such as agender, genderqueer, and non-binary.

      You can choose to change your first and middle names to better express your identity. If you want to change your family name, you need to complete a change of name application and pay the additional fee. Do this before your recognised details certificate application to change your sex is finalised.

    You have changed the type of post. We value identity protection, so we recommend that you choose registered post to ensure the delivery of your certificate can be tracked and delivered to you securely within Australia.

    Important update

    Australia Post are suspending their express post guarantee of next-day delivery. Express post is still available and treated as a priority, but may not be delivered the next business day every time. Normal application processing timeframes still apply.

    Important information

    We value identity protection and you have chosen a more secure delivery outside Australia. However, be aware that international registered mail can’t be tracked, and signing is not available in every country.
