Request a refund

You can request a refund on a service you have applied and paid for with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

In short

You can use this service to request a refund:

  • for a service you have applied and paid for
  • have not received the service and
  • the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages have not started to review it.

What you should know

If we approve your refund, credit card payments made online will go back to the same card.

For other payment types, we will refund to a bank account in your name. We will email you to ask you for your bank details.

The bank account must be an Australian bank account and in the name of the person who applied or paid for the service.

Refunds are assessed against the refund policy.

Who can use this service

You can request a refund if:
Correct. you contact us to cancel your application and
Correct. we have not started to review or process your application.
You can't request a refund if:
Incorrect. we have started to review or process your application
Incorrect. we have followed up on your application for more information or documents
Incorrect. your certificate is lost in the post
Incorrect. your certificate is damaged in the post
Incorrect. your certificate is incorrect because you provided incorrect information

How to request a refund

Brisbane registry wedding

To request a refund for a booking of a Brisbane registry wedding that you wish to cancel, use the book, change or cancel your ceremony service.

Cancellations need at least one month notice to qualify for a refund of the ceremony booking.

All other applications

For all other applications you can request a refund by phone or online.

Costs may be higher from mobile phones and interstate.
