What you should know

When you apply to register a civil partnership, it will not be registered until 10 days after a compliant application is submitted.

During the cooling-off period you or your partner can choose to withdraw your application.

Who can use this service

You can apply to withdraw an application to register a civil partnership if:
Correct. you are one of the partners on the application to register a civil partnership
Correct. a compliant application to register a civil relationship has been submitted within the past 10 days.
Don’t use this service if:
Incorrect. your civil partnership has been registered
Instead, apply to end your civil partnership.

You must get copies of your proof of ID documents certified.

An adult (18 or older) must witness your signature(s) on the application form.

  • completed application form
  • certified copies of ID and supporting documents.

Step 6: Receive confirmation

Once your application is approved, you will be notified the application to register a civil partnership has been withdrawn.

Your application may not be approved if you:

  • do not meet the rules
  • have not included the right documents.

You can submit your application at any Queensland Magistrates Court or QGAP office (except at the Brisbane Magistrates Court).
