You can apply to volunteer as a Justice of the Peace (JP) or Commissioner for Declarations (Cdec) at a community signing site as part of the JPs in the Community Program.

What you should know
The JPs in the Community Program provides accessible and consistent witnessing services at locations across Queensland.
The program assists more than 800,000 clients each year and operates at more than 240 locations across Queensland, including shopping centres, libraries, hospitals, courts and other approved sites.
Who can use this service
You can apply to volunteer at a JP community signing site if:
- you are registered as a JP or Cdec in Queensland.
Don't use this service if:
- You are not registered as a JP or Cdec in Queensland
Instead, apply to become a JP or Cdec.
How to apply to volunteer at a JPs in the community signing site

Step 1: Read the Volunteer Information Pack
Read the Volunteer Information Pack to understand the JPs in the Community Program.
Step 2: Complete the online form
Fill out the online application form.
Step 3: Submit your application
Submit your completed application form online.
Step 4: Receive confirmation
The Justices of the Peace Unit will review your application and, if you are successful, they will send you a confirmation email.
They will acknowledge your registration and inform you of the next steps for volunteering.

Step 2: Access the Volunteer Registration form
Complete the interactive Volunteer Registration form [PDF].
Step 2: Email the Justices of the Peace branch
Email an expression of your interest in the program, with the completed form as an attachment, to jpsinthecommunity@justice.qld.gov.au
Step 3: Receive response
The Justices of the Peace Unit will review your email and inform you of the next steps to apply for volunteering.
How long it takes
You will be informed of the outcome of your application within 5 business days.
How much it costs
Free.
