What you should know
If you resign as a JP or Cdec you must return your seal of office and registration certificate to the Justices of the Peace Unit.
If you have resigned and would like to be reappointed, you must:
- complete the mandatory training course again
- reapply through your State Member of Parliament.
Who can use this service
You can resign as a JP or Cdec if:
- you are currently registered as a JP or Cdec in Queensland.
Don't use this service if you:
- are not registered as a JP or Cdec in Queensland
Instead, contact the relevant state or territory agency where you registered. - want to notify the Justice of the Peace Unit about the death of a JP or Cdec

How to resign as a JP or Cdec
Follow these steps to resign as a JP or Cdec.
Step 1: Complete the form
Complete the online resign as a JP or Cdec form.
Provide a reason for resigning, your registration number and contact details.
Step 2: Return your seal of approval and registration certificate
Return your seal of office and registration certificate by posting them to:

Step 3: Receive the outcome
You’ll receive confirmation your resignation has been received. Your registration details will be removed for the register.

You will be notified within 5 business days that your registration has been actioned.
